Living Life Artistically

The Power of Joy
Within the last 35 years as an artist, there have been several things that have stood out when it comes to what has helped me the most in creating stronger works of art. One of the most helpful and important things that has had the greatest impact on my work, has been keeping a joyful spirit concerning my artwork.
As artists, it should come as no big surprise that our productivity and creativity is at its peak when our feelings are securely based in a spirit of joy. That is when we tend to be the most creative and proficient at our craft. When we have joy dominating our day, we are more productive, clear minded, patient, receptive to new ideas and can more easily see any opportunities that may come our way.
As a general rule, when we are filled with joy, we not only feel more confident in our creative abilities as artists, but we tend to also be more engaged and focused into accomplishing whatever goals we may have. Having feelings of joy along with an enlightened and uplifting attitude towards life, whether one is an artist or not, is a very powerful tool in both its ability to affect one’s personal life and one’s work for the better.
In contrast, when we allow stress, negative feelings or circumstances to steal our joy away, our abilities to create suffers and we may go the long way around when it comes to producing our best work. What we feel at any given moment and what we believe to be true will become the controlling factor in how we both view our abilities, the circumstances in our life and the world around us.
A person may have overwhelming creative ability at their disposal, but it’s a person’s feelings that hold the key to unleashing the full potential of that creativity. Joy is a feeling and a powerful emotion in its ability to motivate. Yet, it is simply a state of mind. Much in the same way feelings of anger, jealousy, impatience and fear are. They are all feelings we have the ability to control through choice.
This doesn’t mean it is always easy to accomplish or that we will never need to replenish our personal reservoir of joy, but that doesn’t change the fact that “JOY” is a very helpful and vital tool, when it comes to living a better quality of life and also in helping an artist create a higher quality of work.
You can see this truth played out throughout history. There have been countless extremely blessed, talented and creative individuals who have destroyed their lives and all the potential blessings they could have gifted the world over feelings of despair.
Our feelings and how we choose to allow those feelings to lead us, have the power to change the course of our destiny. So, what is the best way to start allowing the power of joy to be a greater force in our life? By choosing who we want to be, how we would like to be perceived by others and establishing what we would like our ultimate goal and purpose in life to be. What we choose to listen to, what we choose to verbalize to others and ourselves, the types of individuals we choose to associate with and most importantly, what we choose to believe, all plays a huge role in the amount of joy and hope we will be able to hold onto.
Remember! What we believe most to be true, is what will start to manifest itself in our life.
While it’s true that we live in a world that is full of Anger and Hostility…
We also live in a world of Love and Tolerance.
A World Where Innocent Hopes and Dreams are Still Alive.
A World Where Birds Sing…
A World Full of Compassion…
And a World Where Hearts Can
Change Within a Spirit of Forgiveness.
Yes, even though there is evil in the world, the power we have as individuals for good, is far greater. I choose to view my life as one that is blessed and surrounded by good. Nothing will steal away the joy of being able to see all the good and pure things around me.
I ask you to stand still long enough to feel the blessings all around you. There are few things more important than walking in peace and having a heart full of joy. It is a choice and it is where we have the power to bless others.
