The Power Of Now

Giorgio Dimichina

It seems that with each passing year I am getting a greater understanding of what is truly important to me. What I mean by important, are the things that make life richer and more meaningful. To be more precise, the things that fill one with feelings of love, joy, peace and fulfillment.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is that the now or real time moments of our lives is the only time we are truly empowered while on this earth. We have no power over past events or future events, yet we may spend an inordinate amount of emotional time ruminating on experiences that have hurt us in the past or worrying about things we have no control over. The reality is that we are powerless over these things. In turn, when we are too focused on the future, or some elusive greener pasture joy, we may miss the opportunity to see everything that may be blessing our life at the moment.

We all have experienced doing this to one degree or another. It can manifest itself in many ways. It may be that we are not totally tuned in when a child is asking a question, or not being fully engaged when a loved one is sharing a story that may be important to them, or even by not taking the time to appreciate the daily beauty all around us. By being too focused on the future, one may miss opportunities in the present, vanquishing the unrealized opportunity to the past, where it can never be retrieved.

Is there a value in living in the now? Our brains may be able to see the value in it, but when we are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life, living each day to the fullest as though it is your last is not a natural process. It takes commitment, effort and dedication.

The good news is that our thoughts are not a servant to circumstances. We are always in complete control and masters of the choices we make. We have complete control over what we desire to think about, and what we decide to believe in.

We have the power to create the person we desire to be in the now moments of our lives. Each moment we are alive we can make a choice. I have learned that you don’t attract what you desire, you attract what you are. If you are a positive, joyful person who is always expecting to see the good that life has to offer, you will mostly experience the good and you will be able receive it into your spirit. If you are always skeptical and looking for the bad, you tend to find that as well and it can become the overshadowing experience your life will live out.

When we make a choice to live within a spirit of gratitude instead of want and allow ourselves to enjoy each moment to its fullest and richest potential, we gift ourselves the opportunity to better recognize and appreciate the overwhelming good that surrounds our life each day.

If you have enjoyed this, please feel free to share it.
